Bruce MacWilliams earned his BA studying architecture, photography, and creative writing at Cornell University. He studied filmmaking at Columbia University School of the Arts.
He went on to write and direct several award-winning short films, and an Independent Feature Film, The Last Hand, which was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival. Lions Gate Entertainment distributed The Last Hand domestically and internationally in 2000.
Biscuit Filmworks signed Bruce MacWilliams as a commercial director in 2002, and since then Bruce has directed more than 100 TV Commercials and PSAs, many of which have won awards.
At the 2003 Cannes Film Festival Bruce was selected by the Saatchi & Saatchi Agency as one of the best new commercial directors in the world.
In 2004 Shots Magazine (London), in their Grand Prix Awards Edition, ranked Bruce MacWilliams the 3rd best new commercial director in the world.
In 2006, NBC/Universal Studios hired Bruce MacWilliams to write and create a half hour comedy TV series titled, AD DADS.
In 2008, Bruce directed a Documentary, where he interviewed and filmed Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, Senator John McCain, President Bill Clinton, and President Barack Obama.
Also, in 2008, Bruce directed a series of PSA's for Aid Still Required, where he directed Superstars Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher of the Los Angeles Lakers. The PSA's aired on ESPN, FOX Sports, ABC, NBC, and CNN. They have gained international recognition, and raised an enormous amount of awareness about the atrocities that are presently occurring in Darfur.
In 2009, along with directing several new commercials, Bruce directed and shot 11 more PSA's for Rock4Change.Org to again raise a tremendous amount of awareness on the plight of the people of Darfur and Uganda. The 11 different PSAs have gained over 10 million hits across the internet on many sites including: U-tube, MySpace, and Facebook.
During this PSA campaign Bruce directed and filmed Grammy winning musician, Ludacris, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and actors: Isaiah Washington (ER), Greg Grunberg (Heroes), and James Franco (Spiderman, Milk)
In 2010, Bruce directed two commercial campaigns for Cox Communications, and in 2011, Bruce directed 7 more commercials for Cox Communications, two of which were aired on the Super Bowl in the Midwest and San Diego.
Also in 2011, Bruce MacWilliams joined Producer, Darrin Ball, whom he had previously worked with at MJZ, to form a new film production company, BUZZSAW.
Besides, continuing to love directing Commercials, Bruce is now also working on a feature film, LOTUS.
